Ōkupu Translators will be of the highest calibre, who will be referred by their peers and vetted by Māori language champion and Ōkupu co-designer Paraone Gloyne.
With the Ōkupu app downloaded on an Apple or Android phone and an internet connection, translators can be located anywhere in the world.
Translators can work at a time that suits them and take on as many translations as they can complete as long as they can deliver a high standard of work and provide translations that are within the context required, with audio recordings.
We are seeking a range of translators with different dialects, people who are fluent speakers of te reo Māori and highly regarded amongst the Māori language renaissance community.
Aspiring translators will register on the Ōkupu app via a referral process and once approved are free to translate requests through the app.
For each translation, translators are paid within 1-2 days direct into their bank accounts.
How much they earn depends on the number of translations they complete, the quality of their work and the feedback they receive from users via the app.
Ideally, Ōkupu Translators will be fluent speakers of te reo Māori, who have had several years experience in translation work.
They will also support the use of the orthographic conventions set by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori and the use of tohutō (macrons).
Approved translators will also have clear speech and excellent pronunciation to record perfect audio recordings of the translations they provide.
